In November 2012, the European Parliament voted to amend the EU regulation that bans shark “finning” (slicing off a shark’s fins and discarding the body at sea) so that now all sharks must be landed with their fins naturally attached. This fins-attached method is the simplest, most reliable and cost-effective means of implementing a finning ban.
